FUNCTIONS

  1. Collection and dissemination of criminal intelligence relating to: -

a) Hoarding, black marketing and smuggling of food grains.

b) Hoarding, black-marketing and smuggling of other essential commodities.

c) Economic offences.

d) And other matter specifically assigned.

  1. Implementation of laws and Enforcement of control orders relating to essential commodities as well as other commodities separately assigned or specified.

a) Essential Commodities Act (EC ACT): All cases falling under the E.C. Act, this section will deal with violation of control orders. Cases regarding food grains, edible oils, oil seeds, kerosene oil, cooking gas, lubricants etc. will be handled.

b) Anti-adulteration: This section will deal with all cases relating to adulterated goods, edible or non-edible, cement etc.

c) Economic offences: This section will deal with offences relating to P.P. and E.S.I. Act, cheating cases involving promoters or real estate, chit funds, criminal breach of trust, fraud and/or forgery of securities, bonds, stamp papers and other documents.

d) Vigilance: Matters relating to enquiries against police personnel including purchase and sale of property, receiving gifts, enquiries relating to floating of tenders and demand and acceptance of illegal gratification.

e) Drugs: This section will deal with cases under Drugs and Cosmetics Act.

f) Anti-piracy: Investigation of cases under T.M.M. (Trader Mark and Merchandise Act), Copy Right Act, Cinematography Act, Audio and Video Piracy Act

  1. Investigation of cases instituted for violation of various laws/orders.
  2. Maintaining liaison with the Food and Supplies Depts. as well as other departments dealing with offences injurious to the health of the public, intellectual property rights as well as economic offences and white collar crimes.
  3. Enquiries into petitions and complaints relating to any of the matters specified above.
  4. Investigation of Provident Fund Defalcation cases.
